Eric Richardson joined the Department of Bioengineering in 2013 to teach medical device design, strengthen academic-industry partnerships, and create curriculum in medical technology development for global markets. In 2015, he became the founding director of the Global Medical Innovation Masters Program.  In addition to his roles at Rice, he advises several medtech startup companies and is the Associate Director of TMC Biodesign. TMC Biodesign is a fellowship program that offers design thinking, product development and venture formation curriculum to create digital health and medical device startups. Prior to joining Rice and the TMC, he was a Principal R&D Engineer at Medtronic Heart Valves in California, where he led the design of transcatheter heart valves. Richardson, who has a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Minnesota, holds several publications and patents related to cardiovascular devices.
